Sleeping Beauty Kids

Sleeping Beauty KIDS
The children’s musical is a project of the Swan Hill Theatre Group that began in 2010. It provides the opportunity for Primary School children to take part in a musical stage show whilst teenagers gain experience in production roles such as Directing, Choreography, Technical work and Backstage. This year SHTG is excited to be staging Disney’s Sleeping Beauty KIDS.
Children from Grades 3 to 6 are invited to audition for the children’s musical production of Sleeping Beauty KIDS to be staged Thurs 8th, Fri 9th and Sun 11th of September 2016. The show will run for approximately 40 min with two shows running per day. There are a variety of roles for girls and boys. Children will not audition for specific roles as these will be allocated to children upon selection. We have found that many more children will audition for the play than we have roles for. The audition process is quite difficult for the production team as nobody wants to cause disappointment. We trust that you will prepare your child for the possibility that they may not gain a place in the play and encourage them to try again in the future if unsuccessful.
General Information
Producer – Karissa Box
Directors - Brodi Purtill & Jack Dickinson
Choreography - Tiana Sixsmith

This year we are conducting auditions over two days. This is because the number of children auditioning has increased each year. Auditions are conducted on a “first in first served” basis. This process can involve a long wait depending on numbers, so best to come prepared with a snack and something to fill in time if necessary.

Audition Days
*Children in Grades 3 and 4 Monday June 20th beginning at 4.30pm
*Children in Grades 5 and 6 Tuesday June 21st beginning at 4.30pm
*The first round of the audition process involves children singing a short song of their choice and reading some dialogue(which will be provided) to the Directors. They will also be measured for height. This will take place in the Theatre tea room whilst other auditionees and family members wait in the theatre. It is a good idea to have a simple song prepared that children feel confident with. A song learnt at school is a good idea. It is a good support for children to have a family member with them at the theatre. (It is also a help for filling out forms)
If children are successful in making it through to call backs, they will be given a short song to learn from the play.
Call backs will be held on Friday 24th and Sunday 26th of June. Children that make it through to this stage will be allocated a time for their second audition. Notifications and correspondence from the Production team will be by email.
If successful in gaining a position in the cast children will be expected to make the commitment to attend all rehearsals. Generally the only exceptions will be illness and school camps. Expected dates of attendance will be posted at the auditions.
*REGULAR REHEARSALS WILL BE FRIDAY after school (time to be confirmed) as well as some Sunday mornings.
COST will be approximately $40 - $50. This will include family theatre membership, rehearsal CD and make-up/costume levy.
